Patrick, el perro milagro. Patrick, the miracle dog

 

El 16 de marzo de 2011 el superintendente de un edificio de viviendas en Newark, Nueva Jersey encontró un perro al borde de la muerte en el fondo del conducto de basura envuelto en una bolsa de plástico segundos antes de que fuera engullido por la trituradora de basura. 

El perro se encontraba tembloroso, hambriento, demacrado y  sus rescatadores creen que no hubiera sobrevivido ni un día mas por las pésimas condiciones en las que se encontraba. El propietario lo dejó atado a una verja durante una semana sin recibir ningún tipo de atención ni alimento.

Le pusieron el nombre de Patrick porque fue descubierto el día antes de San Patricio. Fue atendido por los servicios veterinarios y tuvieron que retirarle una bola gigante de pelo del estómago para que pudiera volver a comer. Le pusieron suero intravenoso y su temperatura era tan baja que ni siquiera era registrada por el termómetro. Pesaba 8,5 kilos cuando llegó al hospital. Ahora pesa 22 kilos.

Patrick tiene una página propia de internet y su caso se hizo mundialmente famoso, recibiendo multitud de donaciones para ayudar a sufragar su tratamiento.

Su dueña fue acusada de maltrato, desatención y abandono.

A pesar de que es una historia con final feliz, ojalá nuca tuvieramos que leer casos como el de Patrick y de una vez por todas la gente fuera responsable y tratara a los animales con dignidad.

On  March 16, 2011 the Superintendent of a building in Newark, New Jersey found a dog on the brink of death at the bottom of the trash chute wrapped in a  plastic bag just seconds before he would have been swallowed up by the trash compacter.

The dog was trembling, starving, emaciated and wrapped in a plastic bag and his rescuers think that had not survived a day more for the terrible conditions in which he was found. The owner left him tied to a fence for a week without receiving any attention or food.

He was named  Patrick because he was discovered the day before St. Patrick. he was attended by the veterinary services and they had to remove a giant ball of hair in the stomach so he could eat again. They put him on intravenous fluid and his temperature was so low that it was not even registered by the thermometer. He weighed 19 pounds when he arrived at the hospital. He now weighs 50 pounds.

Patrick has an own Facebook page and his case became internationally famous, receiving many donations to help defray his treatment.

His owner was accused of abuse, neglect and abandonment.

Although this is a happy ending story, I hope we never had that read cases as Patrick's and once and for all people were responsible and treat the animals with dignity.

Febrero, el miedo de los galgos. February, the fear of the greyhounds.

 ‘Febrero, el miedo de los galgos’ es el primer largo documental de la productora Waggingtale Films . El objetivo de este film, es el de comunicar la pésima situación de maltrato y abandono del galgo en nuestro país. Pretenden sensibilizar a la sociedad, que se sepa qué les ocurre a los galgos durante y después la temporada de caza. Los galgos sufren una vida de duros entrenamientos (atados a vehículos de motor), maltrato y explotación. La cría y abandono indiscriminado de galgos debe llegar a su fin.

Este film ha sido íntegramente financiado, filmado y editado por Irene Blánquez. La producción y promoción corre a cargo de ‘Waggingtale Films’ de forma independiente, sin ataduras de interés comercial o político. 'SOS Galgos' colabora en su distribución por festivales de todo el mundo y promoción a través de distintos eventos

Sinopsis

Mila, una galga abandonada con mucho miedo a las personas, es rescatada y trasladada a Barcelona por la ONG SOS Galgos, a la espera de una operación importante tras ser atropellada en Arahal, un pueblo de Sevilla.

El documental FEBRERO plasma la realidad del galgo en España. La caza de la liebre, práctica común en zonas rurales, expone al galgo a una vida de maltrato y crueles entrenamientos. La temporada de caza acaba en febrero y el número de galgos abandonados en esta época del año se dispara. Al igual que Mila, la mayoría de ellos no supera los tres años de edad. La impunidad del galguero sobresale más que nunca en febrero

'February, fear of the greyhounds' is the first long documentary of the production company Waggingtale Films. The aim of this film is to communicate the terrible situation of abuse and neglect of the Greyhound in our country. They aim to sensitize society, that is to know what happens to the dogs during and after the hunting season. Synopsis

Mila, a greyhound abandoned and afraid of people, is rescued and transferred to Barcelona by the NGO SOS Galgos, waiting for an important operation after being run over in Arahal, a town in Seville.

The documentary February reflects the reality of the Greyhound in Spain. The hunting of the Hare, common practice in rural areas, exposes the Greyhound to a life of abuse and cruel training. The hunting season ends in February and the number of dogs abandoned at this time of the year is triggered. As Mila, most of them are no more than three years of age. The impunity of the hunter protrudes more than ever in February.

El rescate de Shreck. Shreck´s rescue

La Dra Brenda Gough y su marido encontraron a este pobre, inocente, descuidado, aterrorizado y abandonado perrito cerca del Centro Ecueste de Southern Cross, a las afueras de Brantford, Ontario. No podía casi ni caminar debido a lo pesado y enmarañado de su pelaje. El equipo del Centro Ecuestre, donde trabaja la doctora como veterinaria, tuvo que entrar en acción para tratarlo y rescatarlo incluso de su propio pelaje.

La doctora cree que el perro ha debido pasar la mayor parte de su vida en una jaula. Estaba anémico, con el nivel de proteínas muy bajo y las patas dañadas de tanto pelo y barro sobre su cuerpo durante tanto tiempo. Incluso tuvieron que sacarle un cuerpo extraño del ojo. 

Al perro le han puesto el nombre de Shreck y en un increíble cambio de imagen, afeitaron más de kilo y medio de pelo enmarañado a este perrito de 6 años de edad. Al final apareció un precioso y blanco Bichón Maltés.

Los Gough tienen a Shreck en su casa y está aprendiendo a convivir en familia. Está aprendiendo que dormir en el sofá, calentito y seco y ser querido por los niños y la familia, es algo realmente increíble. 

La historia de Shreck ha captado la atención internacional y se ha hecho rápidamente popular. Incluso en Facebook tiene un álbum de seguidores.

Dr. Brenda Gough and her husband found this poor, innocent, neglected, terrified, pup, near the  Southern Cross Equestrian Facility, just outside Brantford, Ontario. The dog was all alone and barely able to walk because of his heavily matted fur. The Park Road Veterinary Clinic team, where Dra Gough works as veterinarian, sprung into action to treat him and to rescue him from his own coat and skin. 

Dra Gough thinks he is a puppy mill dog and she'll bet he has spent most, if not all of his life, in a cage. He was anemic, had very low protein and he could barely walk because his legs were hurting from all of that hair and mud caked on him for so long. They also had to take a burr out of his eye.

Gough and her colleagues named the dog Shrek. In a stunning makeover, they shaved more than 3 pounds of matted fur off the 6-year-old canine. The final reveal: a beautiful white Maltese Poodle.

The Goughs have since welcomed Shrek into their home and are teaching him to act like family. He is learning that snuggling on the couch, warm and dry, loved by children and family, is actually pretty awesome.

Shrek's story quickly earned international attention. His story has gone viral and even he has a supporters album.

Paseando con Buzz el otro día nos encontramos con Corina, una preciosa perrita galgo que según nos contó la simpática chica que la acompañaba, se encontraba con ella en acogida a la espera de ir a su nuevo hogar definitivo. Había sufrido mucho pero después de pasar por una etapa de recuperación con su dueña de acogida ya se encontraba mucho mejor y ya no tenía miedo ni se asustaba de las personas. Me pareció una labor admirable, muy solidaria y un ejemplo a imitar. Pero también me contó que hay muchos galgos a la espera de un hogar, animales que han sufrido mucho y quieren una oportunidad y que necesitan también muchos hogares de acogida. La asociación que había ayudado a Corina a salir adelante y encontrar un hogar se llama BaasGalgo y nada más llegar a casa me puse a buscar información sobre lo que hacían.

Walking with Buzz the other day we met Corina, a beautiful greyhound dog the nice lady who accompanied her told us that Corina was with her ​​at reception waiting to go to her new definitive home. She had suffered very much but after going through a recovery with her owner of reception was already feeling much better and was neither afraid nor scared of people. I found it an admirable job, very supportive and an example to imitate. Baasgalgo es una entidad sin ánimo de lucro que se fundó en Madrid como respuesta al elevado numero de galgos abandonados por múltiples zonas en España. Aunque el registro legal de la asociación se produce en 2009, su labor a favor de los galgos se desarrolla desde hace más de 10 años.

Miles de galgos son maltratados, abandonados y cruelmente asesinados todos los años en nuestro país. Desde esta asociación se pretende concienciar e implicar a la gente de forma más directa en el problema de los galgos, ya que la acción de la Administración Pública es más limitada de lo que todos desearíamos. Su misión es promover un cambio en la sociedad con respecto a la visión del galgo como un animal de compañía, frente a la idea actual de muchos que consideran al galgo como “un elemento de usar y tirar”.

Baasgalgo is a non-profit-making entity that was founded on Madrid as response to the high number of greyhounds left by multiple zones on Spain. Though the legal registration of the association takes place in 2009, the labor in favour of the greyhounds has been developed for more than 10 years. Thousands of greyhounds are ill-treated, left and cruelly murdered every year in our country. From this association they try to sensitize and to involve people in the problem of the greyhounds, since the action of the Public Administration is more limited of what we all would wish. Their mission is to promote a change in the society with regard to the vision of the greyhound as a pet, opposite to the current idea of many people that consider the greyhound as "an element to use and throw".

El galgo, adorado a lo largo de la historia, hoy por hoy se ha convertido en una herramienta para muchos desaprensivos; un animal que si no sirve para cazar es cruelmente abandonado y asesinado.

Baasgalgo dedica sus ingresos y recursos a la atención directa de los animales que ya han sido abandonados, a los que acoge y mantiene en su Centro de Adopción hasta que encuentra para ellos un hogar definitivo. Muchos de estos galgos son adoptados en Estados Unidos.
